1. K is the spelling for the /k/sound that must ALWAYS be used before e,i,(&y),but it may come before a,o,u. 2. C/K/ - C makes /k/ before a,o(&u). 3. G makes its hard sound before a,o,(&u) 4. Short U-U will make its short sound in a closed syllable. 5. S/z/-When s is added to words ending in voiced consonants and vowel sounds, it will make /z/.S is a morpheme that changes the word to form plurals and present tense verbs in the 3rd person. S never makes a /z/ at the beginning of a word. 6. E- e makes its short sound in a closed syllable or when it is followed by a consonant. 7. J-j is never found at the end of a word. 8. Y- consonant letter. When y is a consonant, it will be found at the beginning of a word or a syllable. 9. Open syllable-when vowels come at the end of a word or a syllable, they make the long sound. A vowel alone that produces a word is also an open syllable. 10. CK- consonant cluster. It always comes after a short vowel. 11. Ay-vowel pair ay is always found at 6he end of a word of syllable. 12. -tch/ch/-It is a consonant cluster that always come immediately after a short vowel. 13. S-s doubles after a short vowel at the end of a one-syllable word. 14. tr is a consonant blend. 15. ee is a vowel pair, two vowels together that make one sound. 16. Ar is an r controlled vowel. It is a special syllable type. 17. Add “es” to base words that end in s,,x,z,ch,/ch/ to form plurals or verbs so that they are compatible with nouns or pronouns, es is a morpheme that adds new meaning to the base word.
